Bois Chéri is a place where time slows and the island lives in every leaf. My grandmother said that one should always live in a place where your tea gets cold slowly... Walking through the tea fields, the subtle herbal aroma hangs in the air while guides take you inside the factory to show how tender leaves transform into the teas you sip. The small museum adds weight to the experience with vintage equipment, old packaging and stories that make every tasting purposeful and historic.
Outside, the garden paths let you examine the plants up close, from the delicate new shoots to the mature bushes holding the hillside together. By the time you reach the terrace restaurant, your palate is primed for the tasting. The selection covers classic teas and a few playful blends with vanilla, coconut or gentle spice. From the terrace, a lake stretches out below, pairing naturally with light soups, salads and desserts. Photographers and Instagrammers be welcomed :)
There's a window table with my name on it, to soak in the view while enjoying the Bois Chéri English Breakfast Gold. If you want a full-circle tea experience: history, landscape and flavour wrapped into a single, unhurried visit, visit the hilltop where the tea simmers languidly.
