We first walked into Sitar for a working lunch and left wondering where this restaurant had been hiding. Amidst the Bagatelle Mall, the Sitar manages to create that stately confidence Mauritius inherited from its colonial past yet everything on the table roots firmly in the Indian kitchen. Polished wood, crisp table settings and just enough formality make it suitable for special occasions and celebrations, yet never feeling stiff or intimidating. It is equally comfortable for a spontaneous midweek curry night.

What keeps bringing us back is the beauty of the Indian cuisine. The menu moves confidently through North Indian favourites, creamy gravies and tender meats sitting alongside lighter coastal dishes lifted with coconut, citrus and gentle heat. The biryanis arrive aromatic and layered, naan comes from the tandoor with those satisfying blistered edges and vegetarian dishes are treated with the same attention, not an afterthought.

Service is true Indian hospitality following the natural rhythm of the meal. Courses arrive at an easy pace, recommendations are sincere and the team clearly understands that dining here is meant to be enjoyed.
