“I’m not the kind of man who does “romantic things”. I’ve been married a long time and my idea of effort is making sure the genny works. But the kids are gone now. Farm is quiet. So I thought, hell, let me take my vrou somewhere decent. Not camping. Not a bakkie and a cooler box. Mauritius felt… risky and way too fancy. The seaplane thing was my idea. I don’t drink bubbles and I definitely don’t serve it in the sky. But they had her favourite South African sparkling wine and made it feel less ridiculous. When we took off, she went quiet.
